Function held to mark Mha puja

KATHMANDU, Nov 8: In order to mark People´s Unity Day of Russia and Nepal Sambat 1134 and Mha Puja, a cultural function was organized in Kathmandu on Friday.



The function was jointly organized by Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and Nepal-Russia Friendship and Cultural Association (NRFCA). [break]



During the function, a group of young artists played flutes. Likewise, another group performed Newari dance.

Speaking about the program, Bhagawan Ratna Tuladhar, president of NRFCA, said the program has been organized to celebtrae Nepal Sambat and also to promote tourism by showcasing Newari way of celebrating New Year as Mha pooja, which means self worshipping.



The function was chaired by Ambassador of Russian Federation to Nepal Sergey V Velichkin.

Tuladhar requested Velichkin to observe Nepal Sambat in Russia as well.



People´s Unity Day of Russia is celebrated on November 4 to commemorate the popular uprising which expelled Polish-Lithuanian occupation forces from Moscow in November 1612.

The function was attended by residents of Kathmandu as well as many Russian tourists.
