KATHMANDU, Oct 15: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the detention of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara for preliminary investigation in connection with the gold smuggling case.
The decision came on Wednesday following a detention hearing at the district court. With the court’s order, Mahara will remain in custody while the investigation proceeds.
Mahara, a former senior leader of the CPN (Maoist Centre) was arrested in connection with the high-profile gold smuggling scandal that has implicated several individuals including customs and security officials.
