KATHMANDU, Sept 23: Educationist and founding Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU), Prof Dr Suresh Raj Sharma, passed away on Wednesday. He was 86.
Dr Sharma breathed his last while undergoing treatment at HAMS Hospital in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu. Family sources said his last rites will be performed today.
Former TU VC Sharma passes away
Born in Sindhuli in July 1940, Dr Sharma held a PhD in Chemistry. Following the establishment of Kathmandu University, he played a key leadership role as its founding Vice-Chancellor in building the university's academic and institutional foundations.
Under his leadership, the university pioneered new practices in higher education by prioritizing technical and vocational education.
A staunch advocate of educational quality, research and the expansion of vocational education, Dr Sharma dedicated much of his life to Nepal's higher education sector.
