Folk singer Gandharva passes away

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: A renowned Nepali folk singer Tirtha Gandharva has passed away at the wee hours of Friday at Chhauni-based Military Hopital. He was 60.



Gandharva had been hospitalized at Civil Hospital after he suffered a severe heart attack on Thursday, according to his close relative Krishna Gandharva. [break]



Later on Civil Hospital had referred him to Military Hospital in Chhauni where he breathed his last at 2:00 am.



Gandharva who was born in Tanahu in 1957 had served in Radio Nepal as a Sarangi player for 32 years. Gandharva’s songs Balla Pareu Nirmaya Makuri Jalaima’Andhikhola Urlera Ayo are very popular among old Nepali folk songs .



He is survived by two wives, five sons and six daughters.
