An FNJ delegation-led by Chairman Shiv Gaunle on Monday handed over a memorandum to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar demanding necessary security arrangements for media persons. [break]
“We asked the home minister to make arrangements for free treatment of wounded journalists and provide compensation for the physical damages,” Gaunle told Republica.
According to him, they also demanded that the home minister immediately create a favorable environment for journalists to carry out their duties as guaranteed in the constitution.
In response, Gachchhadar told the FNJ delegation that arrangements would be made for the immediate treatment of wounded journalists free of cost. He also assured of steps to provide compensation for the physical damages.
Many journalists were manhandled and over a dozen vehicles, both two and four wheelers, belonging to different media houses were torched and vandalized in different parts of Kathmandu Valley during the Sunday´s strike called by Nefin.
