Flying start for Shrestha, Dhami

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Bikash Shrestha and Deepesh Dhami got a flying start in the opening day of the Second Pushpalal Memorial Ranking National Badminton Championship organized by National Confederation of Sports under the initiation of Nepal Badminton Association.



Shrestha won all three matches here on Sunday. Shrestha, slated on group A, defeated Bilal Barsi 21-16, 21-15 in his first match and edged past Bishal Pradhan 21-10, 21-16 at the National Sports Council Covered Hall. He received walk over from Surya Thapa in his third draw of the day.



Likewise, Dhami beat Basant Bajracharya 21-18, 21-7 in group C. He overcame Sajan Krishna Tamrakar 21-16, 21-16 in the second match.

In other group A matches, Bishal Pradhan of Armed Police Force struggled past Sanjeeb Khadka of Nepal Police 21-11, 16-21, 21-15 and pulled a difficult 21-18, 18-21, 21-12 victory against Bilal Barsi. Khadka won the match against Surya Thapa as the latter left the match retired hurt.



Meanwhile, Indra Mahata of APF defeated Sahadev Khadka 25-23, 14-21, 21-17 and Suman Limbu 21-6, 21-15 but lost to Sudeep Sedhai 15-21, 19-21. Khadka beat Bishnu Katuwal 22-20, 21-17 and Sedhai 21-17, 21-18. Katuwal defeated Suman Limbu 21-12, 21-10 while Sedhai beat Indra Mahata.



Likewise, Irfan Ansari struggled past Basant Bajracharya 21-16, 13-21, 23-21 and Ratnajit Tamang thrashed Pankaj Chand 21-12, 21-14 and received walk over from Bhugol Gurung. Deepak Bohara lost to Chand 15-21, 6-21 but beat Suroj Maharjan 21-16, 16-21, 21-15.

In women´s section, Sabina Panthi won all three matches of the opening day. She pulled a 21-17, 15-21, 21-9 over Nangshal Devi Tamang, beat Shiksha Shrestha 21-18, 21-10 and received walk over from Samjhana Sharma. Nangshal Devi tamang edged past Shiksha Shrestha 21-14, 21-11. Nepal Army´s Sara Devi Tamang thrashed Samjhana Khaling of APF 21-13, 21-9 and beat Mina Shrestha 21-11, 21-10.



Khaling defeated Mina Shrestha 21-11, 21-17 in the next match. Shrestha also lost to Punam Gurung of Kaski 21-6, 21-6. Punam Gurung received walkover from Jal Maya Gurung of Nepal Police.
