Fees for hospital beds

KATHMANDU, May 4:  A number of factors determines where you go if you need hospital care. Location of hospitals, price, availability of beds and the quality of service are a few among them.

Norvic International Hospital, Om Hospital and Research Center, B&B Hospital and Kathmandu Model Hospital are some of the hospitals that provide wide range of health services. [break]

Norvic International Hospital at Thapathali provides general beds at Rs 850 per day. The price includes bed charge, free patient party bed, locker, mineral water jar, 24 hours electricity/fan, common toilet and bathroom, one time changing of bed sheets and attendants for urinal, X-Rays, and other diagnostics.

Doctor rounds cost Rs 300 per day and dressing charge ranges between Rs 100 to Rs 300 per dressing depending on the wound. Heater facilities can be bought during winter and food can be arranged from the canteen by paying additional cost. Doctors generally take two rounds -- one in the morning and one in the evening.

Om Hospital and Research Center at Chabahil has 42 general beds. The hospital charges Rs 605 for general beds and nursing care, side locker and foot step is included in the package.

The hospital charges Rs 300 for operative patients and Rs 400 for non-operative patients as doctor rounds fee per day. However, the doctor rounds depend on the condition of patients. Dressing charge is imposed only on operative patients in case of large dressings.

It costs anywhere between Rs 300 to Rs 400 per dressing.

Gwarko-based B&B hospital has 157 beds and the hospital charges Rs 500 a day for each bed. It imposed additional Rs 200 per day as service charge, which includes nursing and laundry facilities.

It charges Rs 300 a day for two doctor rounds. Additional doctor rounds can be arranged by paying extra fee. Dressing charge ranges from Rs 120 to Rs 200 depending on the wound.

Kathmandu Model Hospital at Exhibition Road, Kathmandu, has 125 general. The hospital charges Rs 300 per day for beds. It has fixed doctor rounds fee at Rs 140 per day. The number of rounds depends on the condition of patients.

All of these hospitals have on-call medical officers round the clock.
