“We urge the legislature-parliament to agree quickly on the transitional justice mechanisms foreseen in the Comprehensive Peace Accord,” said a statement from the Embassy of Denmark on behalf of the missions.

The diplomatic missions have also stressed that the proposed draft bills on establishing a truth and reconciliation commission and commission of inquiry on disappearance should adequately address impunity.

In another context, the missions, according to the statement, have also stressed that the bill on the National Human Rights Commission should guarantee the independence of the national human rights body.

Acknowledging progress made by Nepal in the area of human rights during the last few years, the missions had urged the government to make additional efforts to protect and promote fundamental rights and to meet its obligations under international law in order to consolidate peace and democracy.
