SARLAHI, April 19: Nepali Congress senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said Friday there has been an understanding reached between the political parties and the president of holding new elections in November later this year.

Deuba said it is taking some time to announce the election date as groundwork for elections are ongoing. “There will be election within three months of announcement of the date,” he said. [break]

Speaking at a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union here in Lalbandi, Deuba said his party during recent its Mahasamiti conclave endorsed key decisions on issues of the Janajatis, Madhesis and women minorities.

He announced the NC will unveil those decisions along with the party’s new agenda in the form of election manifesto once an election date is confirmed, making it clear that his party in question of federalism will stick to the mixed system with 11 provincial states.

Deuba said he is hopeful that those parties opposing new elections, including MPRF-Nepal and CPN-Maoist, will finally give up on their protest and decide to contest the elections. “The (Nepali) Congress’s position now is strong,” Deuba, who has been on district visits to bolster voters’ base, said of his party’s situation prior to heading into new Constituent Assembly polls.
