A meeting of the EC took a decision to this effect Friday after both the factions presented their views on the dispute to the EC, said EC Spokesperson Uddhav Banskota.
The dispute in the fourth largest party erupted in June after the party´s parliamentary party leader Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar joined the government as deputy prime minister. The dispute landed in the body after the faction led by party chairman Upendra Yadav expelled seven leaders including Gachchhadar from the party. Both Gachchhadar and Yadav factions have claimed before the EC of being official MPRF.
On Sunday, EC will ask both the factions to settle the dispute through mutual understanding. If the factions fail to end the dispute through negotiation, the EC will begin a hearing in which lawyers representing the factions will take part.
According to the Election Commission Act, the faction that will present the support of majority central committee members will be recognized as official MPRF. At present, the Gachchhadar faction has a majority in the 35-member central committee of the MPRF.
