KATHMANDU, Sept 1: One of the two lawmakers of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi), Motilal Dugad, quit the party Thursday to form a new party -- Nava Nepal Nirmal Party.

With Dugad severing ties with the mother party, the NSP (A) is now left with only one lawmaker, Sarita Giri, also the party´s chairman. According to the anti-defection act, any lawmaker commanding 40 percent lawmakers´ support in their parliamentary party can break away and form a new party.

Dugad will now apply at the Election Commission for recognition of the new party.

If the EC recognizes the new party, the total number of political parties in the Constituent Assembly will reach 32.

In July, Anil Jha split Sadbhavana Party, which is headed by Rajendra Mahato, and formed a new party -- Federal Sadbhavana Party.
