District sports body padlocked

KATHMANDU, April 29: An internecine battle among its UML-nominated representatives is already rending asunder the newly resurrected Lalitpur District Sports Committee. The National Sports Council had on Tuesday re-created the committee, which had been defunct for some three months. But the committee office was padlocked by the dissenting faction, led by Shyam Byanjankar, less than 24 hours after the new committee had been created.



The new committee´s president is Ram Singh Maharjan, who is also the UML´s youth front (DNYF) president.



Byanjankar´s faction padlocked the committee office to protest Marhajan´s nomination. Like Maharjan, Byanjankar is also a UML district-level leader. The Nation Sports Council is headed by the UML´s political appointees.



National Sports Council member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha and the new appointee Maharjan say that they are unaware about the committee´s office being padlocked.
