Discussion on govt policies, programs underway

KATHMANDU, June 6: The discussion on the government’s annual policies and programs has got underway at the Legislature-Parliament on Wednesday.



The discussion, which started a day earlier, is expected to go on till Thursday. The policies and programs for the new fiscal year were presented in the House on Sunday. [break]



On Tuesday, sixteen political parties including the ruling coalition partner UCPN (Maoist) and the major opposition Nepali Congress registered proposals seeking amendment to 93 points of the government’s policy paper.



Critics have said the policies and programs lack clear plans for resolving the country’s economic crisis and concluding the ongoing peace process and do not show any concrete commitment to democratic norms and values, among other things.
