BAGLUNG, April 20 : Development budget of most of the government offices in Baglung has remained unspent.

With just around three months left in fiscal year 2014/15, many government offices have not been able to spend their allocated development budgets.

Irrigation Development Division Office has managed to spend only Rs 8 million of the allocated Rs 54 million. Similarly, Housing and Building Division Office has spent only around Rs 43 million so far. It has been allocated development budget of Rs 150 million.

Though the government has issued sufficient budget for development works, most of the budget is likely to remain unspent as development projects have reported slow or no progress.

Officials of District Treasury Comptroller Office (DTCO), Baglung said substantial portion of budget has been left unspent as government agencies getting high budget failed to implement development works as per the target.

According to DTCO, only Rs 196.6 million, or 23 percent, of the total development budget of Rs 857.1 million have been spent so far.

"Development spending has remained quite low so far. The chances of spending 77 percent of the budget in remaining three months appear slim," Bishnu Hari Timilsina, chief of DTCO, said.

DTCO has urged government offices to speed up development spending and complete development projects in time.

Timilsina said development works were not getting momentum due to lackluster attitude of contractors, the tendency of starting projects at the end of fiscal year, and the government's failure to take action against contractors who fail to complete projects as per the schedule.
