“We want to settle the row through consensus. We will file no-confidence motion only if Paudel refuses to step down by the end of this week,” said a leader close to Deuba.
NC leaders K B Gurung, Gobinda Raj Joshi, Khum Bahadur Khadka, Arjun Nara Singh KC, Binay Dhwoj Chanda, Bimalendra Nidhi and Gopal Man Shrestha, among others, were present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed in details how the faction would present its stand in the party´s CWC meeting that is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. The leaders have decided to push the agenda of changing the PP leader even if the establishment faction offered to nominate Deuba as the party´s prime ministerial candidate.
Paudel was elected PP leader through a voting held in June, 2009, in which he secured 61 votes, with Deuba trailing behind by 13 votes. Deuba faction is confident over majority after courting support of senior NC leader K B Gurung and some disgruntled CWC members of the establishment faction.
Party insiders say Gurung, who supported Paudel in the PP leader election, command the support of at least 12 PP members.
Among other things, the informal gathering of the CWC members close to Deuba decided to seek proportional representation in the appointments to various organizational departments within the party.
