Deepak, Niraj triumph in chess

KATHMANDU, May 2: Nepali players´ performance remained average on the second day of the ongoing second Mumbai Mayors´ Cup International Open Chess Tournament at Goregaon Sports Club, Mumbai on Saturday. Out of seven Nepali players two won, three were held and two suffered loss. [break]



Deepak Maharjan and Niraj Niroula won their respective second round matches. Deepak who lost to GM on Friday defeated unrated Aahan Nachane of India in the 25th move Saturday.



Likewise, Niraj Niroula absent in the first round match Friday started with a winning note while Prakash Nepal played a draw.



The first FIDE Master from Nepal, Manish Hamal, played a draw with 2386 rated IM of India Subrajeet. Hamal is on the second spot with 1.5 points. Hamal and Prakash had reached Mumbai on Saturday.



Likewise, unrated Rijendra Rajbhandari, participating in the international tournament for the first time held 1940 rated Salil Kumar of India.



Prem Krishna Maharjan who won the first round was defeated by IM Rahul Shetty of India and Purusottam Chaulagain lost to FIDE Master Sayantan Das.
