KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Dalit rights activists, who have been protesting against the local administration's passive atrocities against inter-caste married couples, have written to the ruling coalition partner Nepali Congress (NC) demanding action against Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

The activists submitted a written demand to the secretariat of the NC central office on Friday, demanding to take action against  Minister Lekhak who is a lawmaker from the NC.

Khagendra Sunar, coordinator of the 'Dalit Campaign for Dalits,' along with other Dalit rights activists had reached the NC office in Sanepa and staged a demonstration.

Rem Rasaili, a participant in the movement, said that although there were plans to hear the NC’ views on the incident, as the NC leaders did not acknowledge the protest, the activists left a letter at the secretariat.

Satyendra Ram (Chamar) and Neha Rauniyar of Sarlahi, who had an inter-caste love marriage on Kartik (mid-October to mid-November), were arrested on Poush (mid-December to mid-Jaunary) on the instructions of the police administration and a child marriage case was filed against them.

After the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of the inter-caste couple, the incident has captured limelight. Following this, the victim filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission.
