KATHMANDU, March 13: A dissident group of the CPN-UML student wing, All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), on Wednesday staged a sit-in at the party central office in Balkhu demanding revision in the formation committee responsible for organizing the upcoming general convention.

Claiming that the current committee was formed through a “one-sided” decision, the dissidents staged a two-hour protest at the premises of the party office.[break]

Student leaders have claimed that Bhanubhakta Dhakal, a student leader who is close to UML leader KP Oli, has formed the convention organizing committee by including a majority of student leaders close to Oli.

"We will stage stronger protests against the party leadership until the decision will be amended in order to make the upcoming convention more free and fair," Nabina Lama, a student leader said. The protestors are said to be close to party Chairman Jhalanath Khanal. They had submitted a memorandum to the party leadership on Tuesday demanding a review of the decision.

Dhakal had declared a 141- member convention organizing committee under the leadership of ANNFSU president Madhav Dhungel. Dhungel has called organizing committee meetings for March 20, 21 and 23 in Pokhara.
