The seven-member team under the command of inspector Netra Bahadur Baruwal barged into the abode of Lalita Devi Paswan, 40, on pretext of looking for the driver of a truck parked at the road outside her hotel at around 10 pm. [break]
“The inebriated policemen started thrashing us indiscriminately with the butt of gun and boots after my husband opened the door,” Lalita Devi, who is having profuse vaginal bleeding after the incident said showing her bruises.
Her husband Muneshwar, eldest son Chandan, youngest son Kundan and her elder sister Samili, on a visit from Forbesganj, India, were severely beaten by four of the seven who entered the house. “The police chased away the locals who arrived after hearing about the incident,” Budhan Mandal, an eyewitness, said.
Mandal said the police thrashed the family for 15 minutes and took husband Muneshwar with them. Muneshwar was released on Wednesday afternoon, while Lalita Devi has returned home after receiving treatment at the local Sunsari Community Health Services Pvt Ltd. However, her vaginal bleeding is yet to stop.
Inspector Baruwal, however, claimed that Muneshwar provoked the policemen who were searching for the driver of the truck (Na 3 Kha 5506.
“He used obscenities when we asked for the driver of the truck that was obstructing the road. We had to resort to minor beating after his family stopped us from taking Muneshwar to the police station,” Baruwal claimed.
