Consumers urged to buy meat from slaughter houses

KATHMANDU, Oct. 8: Consumers are suggested to purchase meat only from authorized slaughter houses and meat kept in refrigerators. Meat supplied from slaughter houses is safe for consuming and meat kept in freezes is hygienic, the Directorate of Livestock Services said. [break]



The consumption of meat during the Dashain festival goes up by seven fold compared to other times and consumers should be aware of the possibility of being cheated by meat suppliers in this time, said Director Keshab Prasad Premi.



Meat is a source of gaining Vitamin B12 and its demand is going high day by day, he said.



Although, Nepal had introduced the Slaughter House Act some 15 years ago, its enforcement has not been effective.
