"I would like to clarify that I have never influenced anyone or misused my authority for personal benefit as it is against my principles. I have strongly opposed and initiated investigations against irregularities in medical education sector," reads a statement issued by Karki on Tuesday.Karki said he has constantly opposed and taken action against "land, water and medical mafia".
On Tuesday alone, the commission forwarded a nine-point suggestion to the government to end irregularities prevalent in the medical education sector.
He said baseless and false allegations have disheartened him. "But I am still not discouraged. I challenge every such individual leveling allegation against me to prove their claims," he said in a statement. He said he agrees with Dr KC's demands. "However, I am dismayed by allegations he leveled against me."
According to him, various questions have been raised in relation to the establishment, affiliation, licensing and approval of medical colleges in Nepal and it has persistently drawn his attention as a former secretary of health ministry and currently as a chief commissioner.
"The commission has actively investigated against corruption as well as irregularities in the medical sector since past one and a half years. It can be assumed that the CIAA has been able to control corruption," reads the statement.
The CIAA has recently filed a charge-sheet against high ranking officials, professional doctors of medical council and 17 others in connection with affiliation granted to Devdaha Medical College.
