ITAHARI, March 9: A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested police inspector Prem Bahadur Thapa and constable Ashok Yadav of Kadorbana Area Police Office in the district on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.
The bribe was given by a motorcyclist without a driving license who hit someone with his bike in Siraha some time ago. Inspector Thapa apparently asked for a bribe "to resolve the case."
A team from CIAA's Eastern Region Office arrested the bribe-taking policemen.
A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Kumar Basnet, who accompanied the CIAA team tried to arrest inspector Thapa red-handed. But Thapa passed the bribe amount to constable Yadav who threw it in the police office's kitchen.
The CIAA team has already recovered the cash used for the alleged bribe.
The CIAA had kept a close watch on Inspector Thapa after receiving a complaint that he had demanded a bribe. "We arrested them while they were taking a bribe by calling the bribe-giver to the police office thinking that nobody will know about it on a public holiday," Dullu Raj Basnet, CIAA's Eastern Region chief, told Republica Online.
