KATHMANDU, March 3: Holi, the festival of colors in Nepal, began on Tuesday as locals of Kathmandu completed the tradition of erecting a lingo (bamboo pole) covered with 'Chir' (pieces of different colors cloths) at the Basantapur Durbar Square.

Holi is celebrated by playing with colors, water and music. People in hilly districts of Nepal will observe Holi on March 9 while people in Tarai will celebrate it next day.

The Chir was erected at 7:15 am according to the auspicious time as set by Nepal Calendar Determination Committee.
