China assures military assistance worth Rs 778 m

KATHMANDU, July 22: China has pledged military assistance worth Rs 778 million to Nepalese Army during the ongoing visit of Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Sumsher Rana.



According to NA spokesperson Brig Gen Suresh Sharma, China has assured to assist Nepal Army in near future. “However, the details are yet to be decided,” he informed. But the assistance will be on need-basis under the demand of NA, he added.



Meanwhile, CoAS Rana signed an agreement related to Chinese assistance for two mobile hospitals worth Rs 917 million, according to Directorate of Public Relations of Nepal Army. The mobile hospitals are expected to be useful especially in disaster-prone areas. [break]



According to NA, CoAS Rana also held bilateral talks on military issues with his counterpart General Fang Fanghui, chief of General Staff of PLA of China. In the meeting the two chiefs talked about enhancing mutual cooperation in future, press statement by DPR reads.

CoAS Rana also had meeting with other officials of Chinese Army. Meanwhile, the cabinet has approved the upcoming UK visit by CoAS Rana. Rana will return home on July 27.
