Shrestha won golds in 100m freestyle (1 minute 17.8 seconds), 50m backstroke (44.97 seconds) and 50m butterfly (41.59 seconds). Nikon Purja finished second and Rojan Darmi third in freestyle, while Prajwal Thapa and Purja secured silver and bronze in butterfly. Thapa claimed another silver in backstroke leaving behind Anand Lama in third place.
Oshina Bharati claimed first position in the sub junior girls´ 50m freestyle event completing the distance in 36.88 seconds. Tenzing Yega Lama and Rashika Paudel secured silver and bronze. Sabbu Bista won gold in girls´ 50m breaststroke clocking 47.88 seconds. She finished ahead of Bharati and Ashma Tamang.
Sila Gurung clinched gold in junior girls´ 100m backstroke with a timing of 1 minute 38.13 seconds. Yangchen Lama and Mendo Sherpa secured silver and bronze.
Manish Chitrakar won the boys´ 100m freestyle event completing the distance in 1 minute 5.45 seconds. Devesh Manandhar and Samrakshan Thapa finished second and third.
Aditi Dhital won girls´ 100m butterfly with a timing of 1 minute 32.50 seconds. Yangchen Lama and Diwa Rana secured second and third positions. Kiran Karki clinched gold in boys´ 100 m breaststroke with a timing of 1 minute 25.31 seconds. Manish Chitrakar and Sandip Pradhan secured silver and bronze in the event.
Sophiya Shah won girls´ 50m freestyle with a timing of 32.45 seconds, leaving behind Anjali Syangbo and Aditi Dhital in second and third positions. Manish Chitrakar secured gold in boys´ 50m butterfly clocking 32.60 seconds. Pasang Sherpa took silver while Shishir Thapa had to settle for bronze.
Altogether 250 swimmers from 36 schools are competing in the two-day swimming event that features a total of 34 gold medals.
Western bags double gold in TT
Western Region claimed gold medals in both boys´ and girls´ doubles of table tennis at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur on Monday. In the boys´ doubles final, the Western Region pair of Narayan Ghimire and Shiva Pun edged past Sujan Kunwar and Yuvaraj Pun´s pair from the same region 9-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 11-8. Prajwal KC and Sanjay Gole´s pair and Bhabuk Joshi and Dilip Gurung´s pair, both of Central Region, secured third position.
In the girls´ doubles title clash Punam Jhedi and Sangita Thapa´s pair of Western Region saw off Swikriti Shrestha and Sami Shrestha´s pair of the same region 8-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-6. Siddakiya Acharya and Shriya Rana´s pair and Diksha Tamang and Premisha Karki´s pair of Central Region finished joint third in the event.
Central wins girls´ volleyball
Central Region won the girls´ volleyball title on Monday. Central Region defeated Western Region 25-9, 25-12, 25-13 in the final played at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium. Western Region had defeated Eastern Region in straight sets in the semifinal to set up a title clash with Central Region.
Central wins boys´ football
Central Region clinched gold in boys´ football defeating Far-western Region 4-1 in the final played at the Dasharath Stadium on Monday. Prabesh Karki scored a brace for the winning team and Bikash Ale and Kishor Marshangi netted one each. Kamal Deuja scored a consolation goal for Far-western Region.
Four players share lead in chess
Four players shared the lead in the boys´ U-12 age category of chess that kicked off on Monday at Sudesha High Shool, Nakkhu. Milan Lama of Central Region, Mahesh Khadka and Sujan Dahal of Far-western Region and Nirmal Thapa of Western Region are on top with two points each after the completion of the second round.
In the U-14 age category, Bivek Shrestha, Bikash Thokar,Tek Raj Upadhyaya and Jenish Thapa lead the table. Similarly, Raj Prajapati, Bikesh Jaiswal and Ajarudin Ansari shared the lead in the U-16 age category.
In U-12 girls´ chess, Khusbu Jaiswal, Punam Prasain, Arunima Chhetri and Anusha Pandey earned two points each to share the lead. In the U-14 age category, Niruja Ghimire, Remi Maharjan, Isha Thapa and Anu Ghimire are on top. Similarly, Renu Koju and Kumidini Panta share the lead in the U-16 girls´ category.
