CDC taskforce recommends 35 Sections, 312 Articles in new statute

KATHMANDU, June 23: The task force under the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) on Tuesday night prepared an integrated draft of the constitution based on 16-point agreement between the four major political parties.

The draft prepared by the committee has recommended 35 sections and 312 Articles. However, the taskforce which is under the committee led by Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has not been able to settle some disputed issues.The meeting of the top leaders scheduled for tomorrow will discuss on thorny issues.

The taskforce in its draft has recommended 33 fundamental rights and nine constitutional bodies in the new constitution. However, some members of the taskforce are with an opinion to drop one constitutional body.

The Constitution Drafting Committee had expedited the task of framing constitution by forming a task force to settle disputes surfaced in course of preparing the draft.

The report prepared by the task force will be presented to the meeting of the CDC and it will be given final touch after having cursory discussion on it, informed another member of task force Ram Narayan Bidari.

The Interim Constitution of Nepal 2006 consists of 25 Sections and 167 Articles.

Four party meet inconclusive

A meeting of four major political parties at Prime Minister's official residence on Tuesday ended inconclusive.

They have agreed to meet tomorrow morning again.
