Province 2 reports 312 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, total number climbs to 8,832

LAHAN, Aug 23:  Province 2 recorded 312 new cases of novel coronavirus on Sunday, taking the provincial tally to 8,832, the highest among the seven provinces.

LAHAN, Aug 23:  Province 2 recorded 312 new cases of novel coronavirus on Sunday, taking the provincial tally to 8,832, the highest among the seven provinces.


According to the Province’s Social Development Ministry, Parsa district saw 138 cases. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the district has reached 1,937, which is the highest number in the province and second highest in the country, only after Kathmandu.

Bara, on the other hand, recorded 13 new cases, taking the district’s tally to 612. Rautahat and Sarlahi reported 12 and 79 new cases on Sunday. The Ministry shared that COVID-19 tally in Rautahat soared to 1,543 while Sarlahi has 1,220 cases as of Sunday.


A total of 1,115 people were diagnosed for this viral infection in Mahottari with 11 new cases in the past 24 hours. Dhanusha, another worst-hit district in the province, has seen 1,268 cases of COVID-19 infection as 37 more people tested positive on Sunday.


Five other people were found to have contracted the virus in one day in Siraha while the number of newly diagnosed patients in Saptari was 12. With this, Siraha and Saptari have recorded 365 and 737 cases as of Sunday afternoon.


Three more people succumbed to this deadly disease on Sunday. A 33-year-old female from Sarlahi, another 77-year-old male patient from Rajbiraj of Saptari and 55-year-old male from Janakpur Rupaitha died of the virus, said Bijaya Jha, spokesperson for the ministry.


With this, the COVID-19 death tally in the province has climbed to 64, the highest of all the provinces.


A total of 4,237 COVID-19 patients have returned home after recovery, and 53 people were discharged on Sunday.
