The CDC submitted its report to Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Khil Raj Regmi, on Thursday, considering the constitutional provisions and recommendation of the stakeholders, said CDC Chairman Tahir Ali Ansari. [break]
He further said all details of the report could not be made public immediately, and the Election Commission would get the report after it is endorsed by the meeting of the Council of Ministers. Chairman Ansari argued that the report was prepared based on the constitutional provision, and the government itself would make public the report details.
Earlier for the first CA election, 102,040 populations were accounted for a constituency in Tarai/Madhes region while the number for a constituency in hilly region was 94,372.
Similarly, the first CA election had kept intact the previous 205 constituencies and added 35 constituencies nationwide reaching 240.
It is said the CDC decided to keep the previous provision intact after the demand to increase constituency number based on population in Tarai/Madhes.
CDC Spokesperson Tekraj Dhungana said submitting report was itself a significant deed and now the onus to implement its recommendations lies on government and Election Commission.
The government decision on June 13 had formed the CDC under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court justice Tahir Ali Ansari in accordance with article 154 (a) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, 2063.
Reasoning the CDC was short of time for preparing report, it had its terms extended for two times.
