Other members of the subcommittee decided not to hold any discussion in the absence of Dahal, who heads the sub-committee.[break]
The Maoist chairman´s secretariat had informed the officials at the CC secretariat that Dahal would be unable to attend the meeting as he was scheduled to hold a meeting with Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala at the latter´s residence in Maharajgunj at the same time.
Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and NC Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel, who also members of the subcommittee, also didn´t show up at the meeting.
Bimalendra Nidhi and Laxman Ghimire of the NC, Dev Gurung and Khimlal Devkota of UCPN (Maoist) and Agni Kharel of CPN-UML, among other leaders, were present at the meeting. “But we decided not to hold any formal discussion in the absence of top leaders,” Kharel told Republica.
The leaders at the subcommittee meetings held recently have resolved some of the contentious issues in the constitution writing bringing down the list of disputed points from 30 to 21.
The CC, which is mandated to prepare the integrated draft of the new constitution by incorporating thematic reports, formed the subcommittee with a view to expedite the tasks of dispute settlement.
