“Security of election candidates is always at stake when they approach a group of unknown people. Therefore, for their safety, we want them to greet people with a namaste and totally avoid handshakes,” said Chief District Officer, Babu Ram Khatiwada.
The do´s and don´ts during election campaign were discussed during a brief interaction program held in Ilam on Wednesday. Talking on the security issue, Khatiwada suggested the party candidates to be alert during every public meeting, inform police if they are suspicious, and always travel in group, and try to limit their party canvassing inside the district headquarters only.
Total 39 candidates of 17 political parties will contest in the upcoming CA elections. “The candidates should always keep low profile, be alert, keep away from bikers wearing a black visor helmet, and refrain from approaching locals carrying bags,” said Khatiwada.
“We are ready to give our assistance and security to all party leaders. Nevertheless, the election competitors must abide by the rules for their own safety,” said Deputy Inspector of Police Bhim Bahadur Dahal.
