CAN XI inflicts innings defeat on MCC

KATHMANDU March 29: CAN XI bowlers continued their domination of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) batsmen inflicting an innings defeat on the final day of the three-day match at the TU Cricket Grounds on Sunday. [break]

Basanta Regmi took three wickets as CAN bowled out MCC for 146 in 65.2 overs in the second innings to win the match by an innings and 116 runs  having declared its first innings adding 16 runs to an overnight score of 377.


Paras Khadka(57) added nine runs before being run out by Min Patel to force the declaration as Basanta Regmi remained not out on 18.

CAN’s opening bowlers Binod Das and Paras Khadka bowled fiery spells to dry the runs for the MCC openers. Das got the first wicket rattling the stumps of No 2 Ian Fletcher (9) in the ninth over while Khadka got a wicket in the 18th over forcing opener Matt Walker to edge behind to keeper Dipendra Chaudhary.


Basanta Regmi then got into the act dismissing No 3 Neil Jones (9) and No 4 Mark Dale (12) in the 26th and 40th over.  No. 7 Keith Parsons(43) continued his excellent run with the bat to topscore for MCC. But his stay at the crease was ended when left arm spinner Rahul BK had him caught by Shakti Gauchan. Sanjam Regmi and Sarad Vesawker claimed a wicket each to wrap up MCC’s tail.

Gyanendra Malla was declared the man-of-the-match for his 141 in CAN’s innings. Dipendra Chaudhary was adjudged the best batsman of the series for his 187 runs at an average of 56.3 while captain Binod Das was nominated the bowler of the series for taking 11 wickets.


MCC, the world’s oldest cricket club, has been in Kathmandu for a two-week tour. It played five games (three one-dayers, one T20 and a three-day match. Nepali sides under various names won all the matches, except the opening one-dayer. MCC is to leave Nepal on March 30.
