Opener Dipendra Chaudhary scored a cautious 22 off 41 with 4 hits to the fence before being caught by Nishel Patel off bowling by Peter King. Shakti Gauchan (39), Gyanendra Malla (33) and Pramod Basnet (34) were the major run getters for Secretary XI. Sarad Veshwaker topscored for Secretary XI with a quickfire 67 off 63 balls. Sarad remained not out to hit 4 fours and as many sixes. Pramod Basnet and Sarad put on a partnership of 65 runs for the ninth wicket. They punished Keith Parsons, the stand-in skipper of the English side, in the final over, scoring 22 runs.
Off spinner Nishel Patel was the pick of the bowlers for MCC as he bagged 4 wickets. Ian Fletcher and Peter King claimed two scalps apiece.
Parsons tried to make amends for his poor showing with the ball and led the chase from the front. He scored 50 runs off 63 balls. Ian Fletcher was the second highest scorer with his 35. MCC’s tail could not contribute to the cause and it’s lineup unraveled as the runs were hard to come in the middle overs when home side spinners Shakti Gauchan and Rahul BK starved the tourists of runs.
Man of the match Shakti Gauchan claimed 3 wickets while Captain Binod Das and spinner Rahul BK rattled 2 MCC wickets.
“The spinners were the key to their win. They were able to get 22 runs in the final over”, MCC captain Keith Parsons said.
“Their technical aspect was strong but the batting lacked innovation. Our spinners were able to dry the runs and this created pressure”, Binod Das skipper of CAN Secretary XI said.
MCC will take on CAN T20 XI in the T20 match on Monday at the TU grounds.
