As a part of celebrating National ICT Day, CAN awarded Sanjeev Rajbhandari, CEO of Mercantile Communications, with ICT Business Excellence Award for being a pioneer in Nepal´s IT industry. Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry for Information and Communications, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, handed over the award. [break]
Minister Mahara also awarded Inland Revenue Department (IRD) and Kathmandu Model Hospital with the ICT Best User in Public Sector and ICT Best User in Private Sector awards respectively.
IRD was awarded for its contribution in introducing online tax payment system. Similarly, the Kathmandu Model Hospital was honored for providing health facilities through tele-medicine. Rajan Khanal, Director General of IRD, and Dr Bharat Kumar Pradhan of KMH received the award on behalf of their respective organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahara said the focus should be on connecting all villages with broadband service to increase internet penetration in the country. He also expressed commitment to make the proposed ICT Year 2013 a grand success.
Vice-chairman of HLCIT, Manohar Bhattarai, suggested all stakeholders to take power crisis in consideration while preparing for ICT Year 2013.
As a part of celebrating National ICT Day, CAN also organized ´Walkthon For ICT Awareness´ early in the morning. CAN´s district chapters in Rolpa and Kave also organized interaction to mark the day.
