Students barged into examination halls at the major centers including Shankar Dev Campus, Thapathali Engineering College, Nepal Commerce Campus at Minbhawan and Padma Kanya Campus and tore up the question papers.
Tension at the campuses lingered till late morning following intervention by police. Police baton-charged the students and the latter retaliated with stone-throwing.
Traffic in the capital was obstructed till late morning following scuffles in the college areas. Vehicles were diverted by traffic police.
ANNFSU took as its excuse for disrupting the exam the clash at Amrit Science College on Monday where, it claimed, several of its members were injured. The ANNFSU agitation against Tribhuvan University´s decision to do away with the Proficiency Certificate Level has now turned to the disruption of exams.
Initially it was at Sanothimi Campus on Friday that students boycotted exams, saying the examination questions were not covered by the syllabus. ANNFSU also protested the stabbing of four of its members, allegedly by a group from Nepal Students Union.
Similarly, the Master´s level first year exams were also disrupted Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, single women have demonstrated at Maitighar protesting the government´s decision to giving Rs 50,000 to anyone marrying a widow.
As the demonstrators moved toward the prohibited area of Singha Durbar, police halted them using mild force, police sources said.
Single women also submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office later on Monday.
Meanwhile, police on Monday released 18 students including four Free Students Union presidents of various colleges. They were arrested during demonstrations at the Office of Controller of Examinations at Balkhu, Sunday.
