BUSINESS BRIEFS: Overseas workers up 35.11 pc

KATHMANDU, June 21: The number of workers leaving for overseas destinations has rose by 35.11 percent in last eleven months as compared to the number during the same period last year.



Data compiled by the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) showed that a total of 263,570 workers left for different countries in between mid-July an mid-June, up from 195,116 recorded during same period last year. [break]



Among the four key receiving countries -- Qatar, Malaysia, the UAE and Saudi Arabia -- only Qatar saw a decline in the number. Number of workers leaving for Qatar dropped to 52825 from 65779. However, number of workers flying to Malaysia, the UAE and Saudi Arabia saw a rise.



The number of workers making their ways to overseas during mid-May to mid-June was 31,636, up from 29,140 a month ago.





Buddha acquires new ATR-72 aircraft



KATHMANDU, June 21: Buddha Air has added a new ATR-72-500 aircraft in its fleet.



The 70-seater aircraft manufactured by French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR landed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Sunday evening. With the new addition, Buddha Air now has eight aircraft in its fleet. The aircraft is regarded as one of the best in the turboprop series.



The airline plans to use the aircraft in international flights from July 1, 2010.





WorldLink´s new internet scheme



KATHMANDU, June 21: WorldLink Communication has said that it would provide unlimited wireless internet service at the speed of 128 Kpbs for Rs 899 per month. Issuing a press statement on Monday, the company said the offer is valid on annual subscription.



The company has also announced reduction of worldcall (VoIP) call rate starting from 50 paisa a minute.





Mount Mari biscuit declares winners



KATHMANDU, June 21: Hulas Biscuit and Confectionary - the manufacturer of Mount Marie biscuits, has announced the winner of its ´Biscuit Hatma, Bajaj Pulsar Saath Ma´ scheme.



Package number E510226 has been declared the lucky winner of Bajaj Pulsar 150 cc, while A134013 and I108172 have been declared winners of Himstar 14-inch TV sets.



Similarly, package numbers C149327, F100186, C126704, F138137, E501070, C108926, A141419, I113702, I133011 and I114014 have been declared lucky winners of Timex wrist watches.



The winner should contact Hulas Biscuit and Confectionary to claim the prizes within 15 days, the company said in a statement.
