The re-branding comes as a part of the company´s strategy to further strengthen its position in Nepal´s mobile telecommunication market, Pasi Koistinen, Chief Executive Officer of the company, told a press meet on Friday. [break]
Ncell aims to double its subscribers´ base in the coming year. TeliaSonera, the fifth largest telecommunication operator in Europe, had acquired 80 percent stake in Spice Nepal about 18 months ago.
Speaking on the occasion, Tero Kivisari, president of TeliaSonera said the company is here for a long-term business plan. He also said that the company was ready to share its infrastructures with Nepal Telecom and other operators. “We are not against the concept of sharing infrastructures,” he added.
Another promoter of Spice Nepal, Upendra Mahato, assured that the quality of service of Ncell would be of international standard.

Spice Nepal launched its services under Mero Mobile brand in 2005. It had a subscribers´ base of 2.2 million and annual net sales of $90 million as of the year-end 2009.
FM Pandey opens Israel-funded farm
KATHMANDU, March 12: Finance Minister Surendra Pandey inaugurated a Joint Demonstration Community Farm in Rai Gaun of Dhading district on Thursday.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the Israeli embassy in Kathmandu said the community farm is a joint project funded by the Israeli government through Israel´s Agency for International Development Cooperation in a bid to uplift the socio-economic condition of the Danuwar community through improved agriculture methods along with contribution to community health, sanitation and education aspects.
Israel has been sharing this valuable knowledge with various developing countries including Nepal. The embassy has also expressed belief that such local initiative will be more successful and can be replicated in other parts of the country.
JICA´s debriefing seminar
KATHMANDU, March 12: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Friday conducted a debriefing seminar after a successful completion of the 2nd dialogue program titled ´Nepal´s State Building: Growth and development Strategy´ that was hosted in Japan and Vietnam.
“The seminar was organized for Constituent Assembly members and government officials to share the experiences and knowledge gained during the visit,” JICA said in a press statement.
The second dialogue program was exclusively intended as an experience sharing of Japan, Vietnam and other Asian countries and gaining knowledge on economic and development strategy from experts.
