The event, First Saipal A-Level Meet 2011, started from December 16 within the college premises at Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu.[break]
“We want the students of A-Level to have an interaction and the colleges to bond. Unless we organize a program like this, students won’t be able to share what they have learned practically,” says Avijat Niroula, President of Take A Step Foundation.
The program opened with a welcome speech and with students performing cultural dances and songs. The chairman of the program was Lokraj Giri, who is also the Head of the Institutions and President of Cambridge Educators’ Association in Nepal (CEAN).
Giri said that Inter-level college competitions between A-Level students are less frequent. So such programs are important.
“Though this is a small event, this will help students to exhibit their talents and foster mutual relations between participating colleges,” he added.
He further said that the event will also help in building confidence, leadership qualities and help students to use their practical knowledge.
“The program will also act as recreation, and though this is our first attempt, we intend to organize this program annually,” added Giri.
The highlights of the first day of the program was extempore competition, essay writing competitions, and Give Me a Minute, a game where students get one minute to grasp the attention of the audience and present any idea within that very minute.
The program was also followed by outdoor games like counterstrike and basketball tournament.
The A-Level colleges that are participating are Ace Institute of Management, Chelsea International Academy, Modern Indian School, National Campus, Saipal Academy, Xavier International College, Kathmandu Academy, AJW College, and Gems Institute of Higher Education.
Shrijan Amatya, 17, an A-Level student of Chelsea International Academy, shared, “I’m participating in the event to meet new people, expand my horizon and network.”
He further added, “I think an event like this is important to improve life skills as we have to deal with people who come from various schools and backgrounds.”
Lachhuman Gurung, A-Level Program Director of Saipal Academy, expressed that a healthy competition like this is rare among A-Level students.
“Events like this are significant, as it will help in creating harmony and trust among the participating colleges,” he added.
The second day of the event on December 17 (today) will have open presentations using slides and videos, among others, on various themes. Also, there will be blood donation program and basketball finals.
