Boys Union relegated at 58

KATHMANDU, June 14: Boys Union Club were relegated to the second division for the first time in 58 years on Monday on the basis of goal difference.



They were relegated after another relegation battlers Armed Police Force (APF) hammered G Five Machhindra Club 8-0 in their last match at the Dasharath Stadium amidst match-fixing allegations in the Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division Football League. [break]



APF needed at least a six-goal margin victory over Machhindra to save themselves from relegation. Following the landslide victory of the departmental team, having equal 22 points Boys Union were relegated on the basis of goal difference.



Boys Union have minus 11 goals after finishing their league campaign and APF have minus eight goals. Sankata on Sunday had become the first team to be relegated.



Boys Union President Arun Baidya said that they were forced into relegation. Boys Union, one of the oldest football clubs of Nepal had previously won the league title in 1971.



In course of defeating Machhindra, Ganesh Lawati of APF netted the fastest hat-trick of the current season within 17 minutes to take his goal tally to 14. He also became the second highest goal scorer in the league behind Santosh Sahukhala of Three Star (19 goals).



APF scored seven goals during the first half. Niraj Shreshta added a brace and skipper Kumar Thapa, Top Bahadur Bista and Deepak Khadka netted one each for APF.



Earlier, last edition´s runners-up Nepal Army Club defeated Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) 3-2 to finish fourth with 39 points while RCT retained ninth position with 23 points.



Hiranya Magar scored twice for Army in the 17th and 26th minute after Santosh Nepali had given a 14th minute lead. Dipesh Thapamagar scored in the 71st minute for RCT and substitute Ramesh Shahi netted one more three minutes from time.
