Blackout in Ilam after lightning hits NEA substation

MANGALBARE, Ilam, Aug 8: Ilambazaar, the district headquarters of Ilam and its adjoining parts are witnessing blackout since past three days after a substation of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) suffered damages in a lightning.



Lightning had struck the substation based in Tilkeni on Sunday night, damaging its power transformer. [break]



Power supply to 30 VDCs in the district including two VDCs in Panchthar has been disrupted following the damage in power transformer.



Similarly, publication of the district headquarter-based Ilam Post, Sandakpur and Ilam Express has halted due to the power disruption. Likewise, the Ilam FM and Nepal Bani FM have also stopped broadcasting.



Besides, activities at the government offices, business of milk chilling centers and electronic shops and mobile phone services have also been affected due to the disruption of power supply.



Though a team of technicians from Biratnagar was already here to repair the transformer, the NEA office is unsure that how many days it will take to bring the transformer back into operation.
