BIRGUNJ, Dec 13: Birgunj bazaar remained shut on Saturday for the second consecutive day as local transport workers continued to agitate against the murder of Rajeshwor Dube, 50, an employee of the Pashupati Carriers.

Birgunj Transport Association (BTA) has called the indefinite strike from Friday, protesting Dube´s murder. He was shot dead on Thursday evening by a group of unidentified persons when he was busy with his works in his office at Adarshanagar. Three persons who had covered their faces with masks had come to kill him on a motorcycle with a blank number plate. [break]

The Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed solidarity with BTA´s strike. BTA has vowed to continue with its agitation until its demands of arrest of the murderers and compensation for the deceased´s family are met.

All educational institutions, factories, shops and vehicular movements have come to a standstill due to the strike. On Saturday, agitating transport workers disrupted all official works at Birgunj Customs Office, too.

In the meantime, the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) has taken responsibility for the killing. JTMM´s Parsa district commander Akash called local journalists to claim the responsibility.
