Birendra Sainik, Shramik Shanti set final clash

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Birendra Sainik School, Bhaktapur, and Shramik Shanti Higher Secondary School, Lalitpur, on Friday set up the title clash under boys´ category of the Inter-school National Football Tournament being held at the Dasharath Stadium.[break]



Birendra Sainik defeated Siddhartha Vanasthali 2-1 in the first match of the day. Roshan Rai scored twice for Birendra Sainik. Rai gave an early third-minute lead to Birendra Sainik in the competitive match. But Siddhartha Vanasthali leveled the score two minutes. Rai scored his second goal in the 19th minute for Birendra Sainik which turned to be the decider.



In another match, a lone goal from Bijay Ale sealed Shramik Shanti´s 1-0 victory over Haraicha Model Secondary School, Morang. Ale scored the decisive goal in the 72nd minute in the competitive match.



Both the boys´ and girls´ final matches will be held at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday. The girls´ final between Radhika Higher Secondary School, Morang, and Jana Jyoti Higher Secondary School, Rautahat, will be held at 1:00 pm and boys´ final will be held at 3:00 pm.



Maharjan felicitated



The bronze medal winner of the 32nd King´s Cup Amateur International Boxing Tournament Deepak Maharjan was felicitated with cash prize and a felicitation letter in the capital on Friday.



Maharjan was presented with a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) awarded Maharjan Rs 10,000 while NBA Treasurer Ram Awale personally handed him Rs 15,000.



Maharjan had brought home the only bronze for Nepal in 81 kg category in the tournament.



The other members of the team Laxman Saud (51kg), Dinesh Shrestha (60kg) and Sushil Ghimire (64kg) along with the officials and coaches were also honored with appreciation letters. The tournament considered as world championship was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 2-7.



Boxing from Sept 1



The Boshigaun Sports Club is organizing the First Harisharan Memorial Nation-wide Open Boxing Championship from September 1-4.



The organizers expect participation of 250 players in the event to be held on the premises of the host club at Satungal.



The players will vie for 15 gold medals -- six in women´s and nine in men´s section. The female players will compete in 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg and 64kg, while 49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg and 91kg are included in the boys´ section. The estimated expenses of the tournament is Rs 1 million.



Gold medalists in all weight categories will get Rs 5,000, while the silver and bronze medalists will bag Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively
