Birendra Sainik, LA set up title clash<br/>Anil to return home

KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Birendra Sainik set up the title clash with Little Angel´s (LA) School in the ongoing TVS Tyres Cup Third Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament being held at Madhyapur Youth Association ground, Bhaktapur, on Saturday. [break]



In the semifinal matches held on Saturday, Birendra Sainik defeated Baylor International Academy 2-0 and Little Angel´s edged past GEMS 5-3.



Birendra Sainik, which dominated the match from the beginning, had to wait until the 14th minute to score a goal. Ujjwal Tiwari gave the lead to the Army school and Roshan Rai added another goal in the 63rd minute to seal the match. Uttam Gurung of the winning side was adjudged man-of-the-match.



In the other match of the day, man-of-the-match Rohan Jung Kunwar completed his hat-trick to steer LA to victory. He struck goals in the 6th, 21st and 72nd minutes, respectively.







GEMS who were lagging behind 2-0 bounced back in the match with Bijay Bhushan´s goal in the 25th minute and Bishesh Joshi added another in the 37th minute to level the scores.



Tamyang scored for GEMS in the 57th minute to give the team a 3-2 lead. But they were unable to continue with their lead as Tshering Tashi Sherpa equalized five minutes later. Anil Shrestha netted for LA in the 71st minute a minute before Rohan completed his hat-trick.



The final will be held on Monday.





Anil to return home



KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Anil Gurung, striker of the Nepali national football team, will return home this week.



Anil, who recently had signed a contract with Indian League Club Shillong Lajong FC, is coming home for the preparation of upcoming SAFF Championship. The sixth SAFF Championship is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh between December 5 to 15.



According to Sudarshan Ranjit, who had facilitated Anil´s deal with SLFC, Anil will play for SLFC against East Bengal in Calcutta on Thursday and return home. “He will be in Kathmandu by November 14”, said Ranjit.



I-league has a month´s vacation from November 15 as South Asian Football Federation has scheduled its biggest event during this period.



National team coach Krishna Thapa informed myrepublica.com that Anil will directly participate in the final selection. “His previous performance for Nepal was good and he is proving his metier in I-league”, said Thapa.



According to Thapa, closed-camp training will start from Monday. “We´ll select 28 to 30 players for the camp”, said Thapa. Forty-eight players are participating in the initial training.
