Big 4 discuss with opposition alliance

KATHMANDU, June 6: The leaders of three major political parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front have informed the leaders of 30- party alliance represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA) regarding the progress in the constitution writing process.

At a meeting in the Prime Minister's official residence on Saturday, the leaders of four political forces shared the progress in the constitution writing process with the leaders of fringe political parties.


Earlier on Friday evening, the leaders of three major political parties and the Madhesi Front said that they reached an agreement on form of governance-- the most disputed issue in the new constitution.

Emerging from the meeting, Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak said, "We informed them (leaders of 30-party alliance) about the progress made so far. They have agreed on the development. Situation has been created to bring the constitution based on consensus of all parties."

The four political forces have said that the number of federal provinces could be six to eight while the federal assembles could be given the responsibility of naming the provinces and a commission could be formed to delineate the boundary.

Likewise, UCPN (Maoist) vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha said that consensus has been forged to promulgate the constitution based on consensus and unite for the reconstruction campaign in the earthquake-affected areas by forming a national unity government.

Similarly, co-chairman of Sadbhavana Party Laxmanlal Karna said consensus is near if all sides remain honest adding that the progresses made so far were positive. RSS
