Banda affects life across country

KATHMANDU, March 6: Life throughout the country including Kathmandu Valley come to a grinding halt due to the shutdown called by the CPN-Maoist-led Nepal Federal People´s Republic Front to protest the major political parties ongoing effort to form a CJ-led election government, saying that such move was unconstitutional on Wednesday.



Transportation has come to a standstill and marketplaces, academic institutions and businesses have all remained closed in the capital.[break]



CPN-Maoist activists have descended on the road and gathered at major junctures in places including Kupondole, New Baneshwor, Satdobato, Kalanki, Gongabu, Chabahil, Koteshwor and Lagankhel to enforce the strike. Office goers as well as general commuters are having a tough time reaching their destinations due to the banda.



The banda has hit hard normal life across the Dhaulagiri Zone. According to our Baglung correspondent Dilip Poudel, the cadres of CPN-Maoist and CPN Unified have obstructed the public vehicles to operate.



All the public vehicles operating on the short and long routes to and from Parbat, Myagdi and Baglung districts have stayed off the road since early this morning.



A media vans vandalized

Meanwhile, a vehicle belonging to Rajdhani Dainik has been vandalized by banda organizers in Kavre district. According to our correspondent Madhusudan Guraingain, they vandalized the Van this morning.



Vandalism in Ilam

The daily life of eastern hilly districts has also affected due to today’s banda. According to our correspondent at Ilam, Bhim Chapagain, Maoist cadres have stormed the  Ilam Bazaar-based Mhendra Ratna Multiple Campus and smashed window pans and furniture inside.



Banda called off  in Surkhet

There has been called off banda in Surkhet district. According to , our correspondent Kalendra Sejuwal, CPN-Maoist district committee secretary said the strike has been called off in the district considering the ongoing second Cottage, Cultural and Tourism Festival in the district.



Similarly, today´s strike has also no effect in Kanchanpur district as well, RSS reported. CPN-Maoist decided to allow the operation of vehicles and market areas bringing no effect to Far-Western Regional Trade Fair and Kanchanpur Tourism Festival being conducted in district headquarters, Mahendranagar.
