TANAHUN, June 2: CPN-UML Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam has ruled out the possibility of a Constituent Assembly (CA) elections yet again.

He argued that CA elections are held only once in an epoch and not twice within a couple of years as desired by the prime minister in Nepal. The CA polls were conducted in 2008 in Nepal but the tenure of the 601-member assembly ended on May 28, after four extensions, without framing a new constitution.[break]

"Now we need to find solution through political consensus and through roundtable discussions among political parties and major actors in the society," Gautam told reporters in Dhading on Saturday.

Gautam accused Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai of overstepping his jurisdiction by announcing dissolution of CA and fresh elections for the assembly without consulting other political parties. "The prime minister took the decision because the Maoist party plans to impose an autocratic system in the country," he said.

Meanwhile, he accused the UML leaders from ethnic and indigenous communities of promoting anarchy in the party instead of holding discussions within the party mechanisms. He said the UML leadership was right about proposing the restructuring of the country on the basis of common and neutral identities as naming the provinces after certain ethnic groups would instigate ethnic conflicts.
