The supply of alcoholic beverages is reportedly high than that of other food items on the festive season of Dashain, Tihar and other local festivals.

The store of retailers in district headquarters Chainpur and other adjoining VDCs are filled with alcoholic products during this season.

The distrifct, which sees acute shortage of grains ahead of Dashain, never runs short of alcohol, said locals.

Locals of the district, who earn around one billion rupees from Yarsa picking every year, spend a huge chunk of money in alcohol.

At a time when locals of far-flung Kanda VDC of the same district are compelled to buy rice of less quality at Rs 150 per kg during Dashain, businesspersons in Chainpur are busy importing and selling alcohol every day, said local woman leaders.

Such a situation was emerged owing to government´s apathy toward addressing pressing needs of the people and concentration to profit-making business, said chairperson of Bajhang Chamber of Commerce and industry. He further said they have been forced to import alcohol to meet the rising demand here.
