Skipper Deepa Adhikari scored four goals and Sapana Lama completed a hat-trick as Army crushed its hapless opponent to storm into the second round of the knockout tournament.
Indra Rai, Krishna Khatri and substitute Bhujanga Rai scored a brace while Kavita Dhimal was also on the scoresheet with one goal to her name.
Dhimal gave an early lead to Army as she opened the scoring in the 10th minute. The departmental team scored three goals in a span of five minutes as Indra Rai added a second in the 11th minute and Sapana Lama made it 3-0 for Army three minutes later. [break]
Krishna Khatri extended the lead in the 21st minute. Lama and skipper Adhikari scored in the 30th and 44th minutes respectively as Army was 6-0 ahead during the break.
After the interval, Adhikari scoed her second and Army´s seventh goal. She added two more in the 64th and 83rd minutes.
Indra Rai (57 minutes), Sapana Lama (62 minutes), and Bhujanga Rai (74 and 76 minutes) also scored for Army in the second half to complete the rout.
In the second match of the day, Far-western Region defeated Eastern Region 5-3 in tie-breaker after the regular time ended in a 2-2 draw.
Earlier, Lieutenant Genreal Netra Bikram Thapa and his brother, ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, inaugurated the five-day tournament by handing over football to the referee.
Altogether three departmental teams -- Army, Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Armed Police Force (APF) -- and a team each from five development regions are competing in the tournament that carries a cash prize of Rs 300,000 for the winning team.
Meanwhile, Tuesday´s late match between APF and Mid-western Region has been rescheduled for 8 am to avoid clash with the U-16 SAFF Championship final while the other match between NPC and Central Region will be held at 1 pm.
