Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the NHRC stated that its monitorning team found the supply of warm clothes in Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Makwanpur and Gorkha is inadequate. The people in the quake-hit areas around the Kathmandu Vallley are also short of warm clothing, the NHRC said.
"Let alone the winter incentive of Rs 10,000 per family announced, some of the villagers complained that they have not yet received the Rs 15,000 relief announced as immediate earthquake relief," read the NHRC statement.
The commission has pointed out that earthquake victims' shelter in Chuchchepati of Kathmandu, Naubise-Laharepauwa of Rasuwa and Indrayanichaur of Nuwakot lack toilets and drinking water. The women are the most affected. Sanothimi, Changu and Bhelukhel of Bhaktapur are among the worst managed shelters needing immediate attention, the NHRC stated.
"The health posts are running out of medicines whereas medics are also unavailable when the locals seek services," read the statement.
Likewise, the commission has warned that the locals remain unaware of the new building code announced by the government and this could invite another catastrophe in the future.
