KATHMANDU, March 24: The Afghanistan football team has pulled back from the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers slated to be held in Kathmandu from Thursday. Afghanistan was scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu by today to participate in a group ‘C’ qualifying match. Host Nepal, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan were in the group. [break]

But now only three teams will participate in the qualifying tournament.

“Asian Football Confederation informed us about this just now but it has not disclosed the reason for their absence,” ANFA President Ganesh Thapa said. There might be some changes in the match schedule, he said.

The new schedule is likely to be made public later today.
