YBC was a business plan competition with the theme 'learn, create, win' targeted for high school students in the valley. Designed with the aim to inculcate the concept of entrepreneurship in high schoolers, the competition saw participation of 10 colleges from which seven made it to the finals.Prior to the grand finale, three workshops were conducted for teachers as well as participants with the aim to equip them with sound knowledge of Business Model Canvas, Value Proposition and the Financials which are some of the essential prerequisites for entrepreneurs.
The teachers were trained with the aim to provide mentors for the participants. Thus the mentors guided the teams throughout the competition.
Nari Sawari's concept is to provide an eco-friendly bus service for women only, inside and outside the ring road. The idea bagged a lump sum of Rs 25,000.
Riya Shrestha, one of the members of the winning team shared, "The experience here was phenomenal. All of us thought it's going to be very easy in the beginning, but when we actually started making the business plan, we realized how wrong we were. Especially the financial part required so much details."
The judging panel for the finals comprised of Narottam Aryal, Executive Director at King's College; Ratna Tara Baidya, IT Head of Nepal Bangladesh Bank, and Rajeev Amatya, Managing Director of Kaymu.
Speaking at the finale of the challenge held at King's College in Babermahal on Monday, December 28, Program Director of Karmanye Foundation, Chandani Pandey announced to hold this competition on an annual basis.
Youth Business Challenge 2015 was supported by Young Leader Entrepreneurship Forum (YLEF) and King's College.
